Demographic Data Collection, Analysis, and ProjectionIn this assignment each student is expected to choose a county in the U.S. and conduct a basic demographic condition and population projection analysis of the chosen area. Use secondary data to complete your research. Depending on the question requirements, download the demographic data of the county from American FactFinder or download the overall QuickFacts data from the Census Bureau about your study area. If you are able, incorporate your GIS skills, although it is not required to do so. Charts, maps and tables should be professionally created. Only use one type of presentation methods (either table, or graphs, or maps) to describe the same data in the report. Repeating the same data with a combination of these three methods is redundant and not necessary.All the charts, tables and maps should be sequentially numbered and named (e.g. Figure 1: Racial composition of the county; Table 1: Historic population counts, etc.). Sources of the data should be properly credited following the charts/tables/maps. Sparely cite the charts/tables/maps from other sources and create them yourself if possible. Use APA citation format for all your references. Use 1.15 line spacing and appropriate font types. Either landscape or portrait page orientation is acceptable. Organize the tables, graphs, maps, and the text in a way that is nether cluttered nor with too much space. Align your texts, tables, graphs, maps, and the text. Insert page numbers. Use headings and subheadings, which will be useful for creating the Table of Contents automatically. Headings and subheadings should be stressed with either bold, larger font sizes, different colors, or a combination of these techniques. Maps should have all the map elements, such as the map itself, legend, north arrow, scale bar, creator, and creation date. Page margins should be 1? all around. You can use Microsoft Publisher or Photoshop Illustrator to format your report if you choose to do so. Otherwise, please submit a Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf file to Canvas. Adobe pdf files are highly suggested since Word files sometimes shift when opening in a different version, different computer, or different operating system.The report should be organized as the following:1. Title page: Add some graphic design, include at least the report title, your name, and date.2. Acknowledgments23. Table of Contents: Use the ?References? feature of Microsoft Word to automatically or manually create a Table of Contents. Update the Table of Contents if you update your report.4. Executive Summary: Use one page to summarize your report briefly.7. Background Introduction In this section write a brief introduction of the location, history and socioeconomic characteristics of your study area. If possible create a GIS map of the county in reference to the state; otherwise cite a map.8. Demographic Conditions Go to American QuickFacts located at the center of the homepage of the Census Bureau website: the state first, then find the basic information (QuickFacts) of the county. Keep the state and county information side by side. Then complete the following exercises. 8.1 Describe the overall population statistics and percentage change of the county and how they compare to the state.8.2 Generate a 3D pie chart to delineate the age and sex structure of the county and the state. Be careful of which data to include in your graph. Then describe the chart. Watch for the data point date and make sure the data are from the same point of time. Describe your charts.8.3 Generate a 3D pie chart to delineate the racial structure of the population for the county and the state. Remember, Hispanic and non-Hispanic is NOT a racial category. Make sure all your percentages add up to 100% to double check whether you included any categories you are not supposed to include. Describe your charts. Describe the Hispanic/Non-Hispanic status and foreign-born population status.8.4 Describe the educational status, families and living arrangements, and health status. Use charts to compare selected variables between the county and the state.8.5 Describe the employment and civilian labor force status of the county and the state.8.6. Download the age and gender cohort data of your county and create a population pyramids from the data. To download the data, go to American FactFinder ?Geographies? choose your county and add it to your selection. Close the ?Select3Geographies? popup window. Now look at the list of tables on your webpage and select ?AGE AND SEX? (Table S0101). Download the table to Excel by choosing ?Download? or copy and paste the table to Excel. In Excel, delete all the irrelevant information and only include population category (5 year cohorts), male, and female percentages. Then create a population pyramid based on your data. Follow the guide posted on Canvas. Formatting options of higher version Excel can be accessed by right clicking any chart object area. Describe the population pyramid.9. Population Projection Find the population growth data of the county ( Describe the trend of population growth, and use a bar or line chart to delineate the trend. Use one of the ratio (compared to the state where the county is located in) methods and a regression method to project your county?s population for the year of 2020, 2030, 2040, and 2050. Create a table or chart to delineate the population as in 2010, 2020, 2030, 2040, and 2050. Describe the limitations of using the ratio and the regression methods projecting the population.Alternatively, if you choose a Florida County, you can use the Florida population Excel data that is provided on Canvas to find the historic population data for the county and conduct the projection. 10. References. The reference list and the in-text citation should strictly follow the APA citation style. You can use the endnotes style for your citations.
